In this HashKey Insight Report we explore how tokenisation is creating new financial frontiers and how it has the potential to disrupt multi-trillion-dollar industries, from supply chain finance to commercial real estate and art.
Through fractionalisation and efficient technology, tokenisation can transform illiquid, privately held assets into liquid, high-quality collateral. Improvements to market efficiency are driving investment in the first wave of tokenisation projects. However, we believe that the real long-term opportunity lies in connecting tokenisation to the coming convergence of blockchain and Internet of things (IoT) technologies. What is an NFT?
An NFT (non-fungible token) is a digital certificate that proves the authenticity of a tangible or intangible asset. If something is fungible, it has the ability to exchange an asset for another of the same kind of equal value; physical money and cryptocurrencies are “fungible”. Each NFT has a unique digital signature that make it impossible for them to be exchanged for one another, thus they are “non-fungible”. Most NFTs exist on the Ethereum blockchain, although other blockchains support them as well.
